Rapid Ferritin (iron) deficiency test

It could be due to an iron deficiency. This is a condition where the body lacks enough iron, a vital mineral needed to produce haemoglobin, a protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body. Without enough iron, the body can’t make enough healthy red blood cells, which leads to reduced oxygen delivery to tissues. This can cause all of the symptoms above.

In the UK iron deficiency is very common in women, approximately 30% of women would benefit from iron supplementation and 10% of women are severely iron deficient.

One of the solutions to an iron deficiency is an IV iron infusion. We can only offer this to our patients if a low iron level is demonstrated by a blood test. If you have recent relevant blood test or a referral from another Doctor then we will not need to take another one.

The Rapid Ferritin test is a test that takes only 15 minutes and involves a drop of blood from a finger prick and we analyse this straight away. You can then identify your ferritin levels, an important part of determining of you have an iron deficiency. Your results will be reviewed by one of our Doctors expert in treating iron deficiency and they will determine if you would benefit from IV iron supplementation.
