FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • What is a Lateral Flow Test?
    • A lateral flow test is a highly convenient method of Covid-19 testing that allows you to get self-tested at home with results in just 15 minutes. The test kit is a hand-held device with an absorbent pad at one end and a reading window at the other. Inside the device is a strip of test paper that changes colour in the presence of Covid-19 proteins (antigens). Research shows lateral flow tests are more than 90% accurate. This means the chance of getting a false-positive result (where the result shows as positive but is actually negative) is extremely low.

Our lateral flow tests are highly convenient with just a 15-minute turnaround time, as well as the assurance that they can pick up moderate to high viral loads. Patients will have moderate to high viral loads about three days before symptoms start until between 7 and 10 days after symptoms start.

Lateral flow tests are now accepted for travel (while many international travel destinations still require a negative PCR test to travel abroad, some countries are accepting a negative rapid antigen lateral flow test for entry into the country – providing all other conditions and stipulations are met), as well as at most schools and workplaces.

  • What is a Fit to Fly Certificate?
    • A COVID-19 Fit to Fly Certificate is a letter signed by a doctor registered with the General Medical Council (GMC), confirming a recent negative test result for Coronavirus, declaring you fit to fly aboard.

Make sure to check your destination country’s current regulations for the latest information on which type of test you will need to take for entry into that country and when you need to take that test before leaving the UK.

NHS COVID-19 testing results are not suitable for travel certification. You must undertake an independent test to travel abroad.

  • When do I need a Fit to Fly Certificate?
    • If you are travelling from the UK overseas, you will need a Fit to Fly certificate stating your personal details and a negative COVID-19 result.

Depending on your destination country, you may be required to have proof of a negative COVID-19 result 48-96 hours before arriving at your destination.

We recommend you review the travel requirements of the country you are flying to regarding the specific timeframe for a Fit to Fly certification and order your Fit to Fly Covid test plenty of time ahead of your flight.

While some international travel destinations still require a negative PCR test to travel abroad, many countries are now accepting a negative rapid antigen lateral flow test for entry into the country – providing all other conditions and stipulations are met.

Make sure to check your destination country’s current regulations for the latest information on which type of test you will need to take for entry into that country and when you need to take that test before leaving the UK.

  • How do I submit my Fit to Fly lateral flow test result?
    • A link to our results portal where you can submit your test results will be sent to you in the confirmation email you’ll receive as soon as you buy your test.

A Doctors certificate will be sent to you within 2 hours (Between 8am and 8pm).

  • What to do if I test positive?
    • If you get a positive result from these self-tests, it is highly likely you are currently infected with Covid-19 and risk infecting others. You must follow the information in the instructions for use provided with the kit. You must report your result to the NHS through one of the methods detailed in the instructions for use. When you report your result, you will be provided with a free confirmatory NHS PCR test and further information on the following steps to take.
